# 8d2h — eight-two offsuit

**Fold from every position when the pot is unopened.** 8d2h ranks 158 of the 169 distinct starting hands
(top 90.6%). Against one random hand it wins
34.07% of showdowns and takes 36.78% of the pot.

## What this hand is

Eight-two offsuit. Before any board card is dealt its odds are identical to
8c2d, 8c2h, 8c2s, 8d2c, 8d2s, 8h2c, 8h2d, 8h2s, 8s2c, 8s2d, 8s2h — suits are interchangeable pre-flop, so all
12 combinations in class 82o share the numbers below.
That stops being true the moment the board has suits, which is what the paid
record covers.

## Equity against random opponents

| Opponents | Win % | Tie % | Pot equity % |
| --------- | ----- | ----- | ------------ |
| 1 | 34.07 | 5.43 | 36.78 |
| 2 | 20.18 | 3.57 | 21.76 |
| 3 | 13.83 | 2.90 | 15.09 |
| 4 | 10.28 | 2.57 | 11.41 |
| 5 | 8.11 | 2.37 | 9.15 |
| 6 | 6.62 | 2.20 | 7.59 |
| 7 | 5.56 | 2.04 | 6.44 |

Monte Carlo, 400,000 trials per row, seed 1 —
same seed, same digits. "Pot equity" counts outright wins plus a share of split
pots, which is the number to compare against pot odds.

## Head-to-head, exact

Against the opponent's whole hand class, not one chosen pair of cards: every
combination of it you do not block, each enumerated over all 1,712,304
boards. No sampling. "Combos" is how many were averaged.

| Against | Hero pot equity % | Hero win % | Split % | Combos |
| ------- | ----------------- | ---------- | ------- | ------ |
| AA | 12.24 | 12.03 | 0.41 | 6 |
| KK | 12.10 | 11.88 | 0.43 | 6 |
| QQ | 12.22 | 12.01 | 0.42 | 6 |
| JJ | 11.99 | 11.77 | 0.44 | 6 |
| TT | 11.73 | 11.47 | 0.51 | 6 |
| 77 | 27.50 | 26.96 | 1.08 | 6 |
| 22 | 32.97 | 30.92 | 4.09 | 3 |
| AKs | 30.91 | 30.65 | 0.52 | 4 |
| AKo | 32.46 | 32.22 | 0.49 | 12 |
| AQs | 30.95 | 30.70 | 0.51 | 4 |
| JTs | 28.82 | 28.22 | 1.20 | 4 |
| 76s | 49.54 | 47.14 | 4.81 | 4 |

Averaging matters here. Against a single representative the answer shifts with
the suits — J♣T♣ takes 17.77% against Q♣Q♦ but 18.89% against Q♠Q♦, because the
shared club both blocks a flush and removes cards. Averaged over the class the
figure is the same whichever suits you hold, which is what makes it quotable.

## What this page cannot tell you

Pre-flop equity is not a strategy. It ignores stack depth, bet sizing, and how
your opponents actually play. The verdict above is a conventional opening chart,
not solver output. Equity against a random hand is also not equity against a
range: an opponent who raises has better than random cards, and this page does
not model that.
