# As5h — ace-five offsuit

**Open-raise from button; fold it elsewhere.** As5h ranks 42 of the 169 distinct starting hands
(top 22.9%). Against one random hand it wins
55.61% of showdowns and takes 57.57% of the pot.

## What this hand is

Ace-five offsuit. Before any board card is dealt its odds are identical to
Ac5d, Ac5h, Ac5s, Ad5c, Ad5h, Ad5s, Ah5c, Ah5d, Ah5s, As5c, As5d — suits are interchangeable pre-flop, so all
12 combinations in class A5o share the numbers below.
That stops being true the moment the board has suits, which is what the paid
record covers.

## Equity against random opponents

| Opponents | Win % | Tie % | Pot equity % |
| --------- | ----- | ----- | ------------ |
| 1 | 55.61 | 3.93 | 57.57 |

| 3 | 26.09 | 4.21 | 28.08 |
| 4 | 20.17 | 4.06 | 22.06 |
| 5 | 16.19 | 3.90 | 18.00 |
| 6 | 13.48 | 3.73 | 15.20 |
| 7 | 11.43 | 3.64 | 13.09 |

Monte Carlo, 400,000 trials per row, seed 1 —
same seed, same digits. "Pot equity" counts outright wins plus a share of split
pots, which is the number to compare against pot odds.

## Head-to-head, exact

Against the opponent's whole hand class, not one chosen pair of cards: every
combination of it you do not block, each enumerated over all 1,712,304
boards. No sampling. "Combos" is how many were averaged.

| Against | Hero pot equity % | Hero win % | Split % | Combos |
| ------- | ----------------- | ---------- | ------- | ------ |
| AA | 8.10 | 7.44 | 1.33 | 3 |
| KK | 29.85 | 29.64 | 0.42 | 6 |
| QQ | 29.80 | 29.59 | 0.41 | 6 |
| JJ | 29.82 | 29.63 | 0.39 | 6 |
| TT | 29.52 | 29.33 | 0.39 | 6 |
| 77 | 30.77 | 30.56 | 0.41 | 6 |
| 22 | 47.56 | 47.24 | 0.64 | 6 |
| AKs | 26.14 | 23.87 | 4.53 | 3 |
| AKo | 27.42 | 25.04 | 4.75 | 9 |
| AQs | 26.66 | 23.84 | 5.65 | 3 |
| JTs | 51.61 | 51.38 | 0.46 | 4 |
| 76s | 53.31 | 53.07 | 0.47 | 4 |

Averaging matters here. Against a single representative the answer shifts with
the suits — J♣T♣ takes 17.77% against Q♣Q♦ but 18.89% against Q♠Q♦, because the
shared club both blocks a flush and removes cards. Averaged over the class the
figure is the same whichever suits you hold, which is what makes it quotable.

## What this page cannot tell you

Pre-flop equity is not a strategy. It ignores stack depth, bet sizing, and how
your opponents actually play. The verdict above is a conventional opening chart,
not solver output. Equity against a random hand is also not equity against a
range: an opponent who raises has better than random cards, and this page does
not model that.
