# Qh8d — queen-eight offsuit

**Fold from every position when the pot is unopened.** Qh8d ranks 67 of the 169 distinct starting hands
(top 32.3%). Against one random hand it wins
51.89% of showdowns and takes 53.58% of the pot.

## What this hand is

Queen-eight offsuit. Before any board card is dealt its odds are identical to
Qc8d, Qc8h, Qc8s, Qd8c, Qd8h, Qd8s, Qh8c, Qh8s, Qs8c, Qs8d, Qs8h — suits are interchangeable pre-flop, so all
12 combinations in class Q8o share the numbers below.
That stops being true the moment the board has suits, which is what the paid
record covers.

## Equity against random opponents

| Opponents | Win % | Tie % | Pot equity % |
| --------- | ----- | ----- | ------------ |
| 1 | 51.89 | 3.39 | 53.58 |
| 2 | 33.58 | 3.37 | 35.14 |
| 3 | 24.68 | 3.17 | 26.13 |
| 4 | 19.08 | 3.00 | 20.44 |
| 5 | 15.66 | 2.89 | 16.97 |
| 6 | 12.95 | 2.81 | 14.22 |
| 7 | 10.87 | 2.70 | 12.08 |

Monte Carlo, 400,000 trials per row, seed 1 —
same seed, same digits. "Pot equity" counts outright wins plus a share of split
pots, which is the number to compare against pot odds.

## Head-to-head, exact

Against the opponent's whole hand class, not one chosen pair of cards: every
combination of it you do not block, each enumerated over all 1,712,304
boards. No sampling. "Combos" is how many were averaged.

| Against | Hero pot equity % | Hero win % | Split % | Combos |
| ------- | ----------------- | ---------- | ------- | ------ |
| AA | 13.61 | 13.44 | 0.35 | 6 |
| KK | 13.28 | 13.09 | 0.38 | 6 |
| QQ | 7.92 | 7.00 | 1.85 | 3 |
| JJ | 28.12 | 27.93 | 0.37 | 6 |
| TT | 28.00 | 27.81 | 0.38 | 6 |
| 77 | 44.85 | 44.60 | 0.50 | 6 |
| 22 | 48.47 | 47.88 | 1.17 | 6 |
| AKs | 31.71 | 31.48 | 0.45 | 4 |
| AKo | 33.29 | 33.07 | 0.43 | 12 |
| AQs | 24.54 | 23.79 | 1.51 | 3 |
| JTs | 53.05 | 52.60 | 0.90 | 4 |
| 76s | 59.25 | 58.80 | 0.89 | 4 |

Averaging matters here. Against a single representative the answer shifts with
the suits — J♣T♣ takes 17.77% against Q♣Q♦ but 18.89% against Q♠Q♦, because the
shared club both blocks a flush and removes cards. Averaged over the class the
figure is the same whichever suits you hold, which is what makes it quotable.

## What this page cannot tell you

Pre-flop equity is not a strategy. It ignores stack depth, bet sizing, and how
your opponents actually play. The verdict above is a conventional opening chart,
not solver output. Equity against a random hand is also not equity against a
range: an opponent who raises has better than random cards, and this page does
not model that.
