Aces vs kings: the odds

What are the odds of pocket aces against pocket kings?

Hand Cards Wins Equity
Pocket aces A♥ A♦ 82.4% 82.6%
Pocket kings K♥ K♦ 17.1% 17.4%
Split pot 0.54%

All-in before the flop, with five cards to come. Equity is each hand's average share of the pot — outright wins plus half of the split pots. Computed by enumerating all 1,712,304 possible boards with this site's own engine, so these are exact figures rather than a simulation.

Why the number looks like that

Kings essentially need a king to arrive — about one board in three brings one — but the same board can hand aces a straight, a flush or a bigger two pair, which is why kings win rather less often than "one king in three boards" suggests. This is the biggest pre-flop favourite two made hands can produce.
